WordPress website design

Clergy Malt Club

Designed a simple ‘brochureware’ site on a free WordPress.com account, and later migrated it to its own SiteGround hosting account.

Clergy Malt Club

Clergy Malt Club is an event that takes place on social media every Christmas. It was started by a friend of mine, the Reverend David Meldrum, an Anglican priest now living in South Africa.

Clergy Malt Club is an inclusive, welcoming online community of church workers at Christmas. The first rule of Clergy Malt Club is that people working in church over Christmas may have a little drink if they like and share it on social media. All denominations are welcome.

Having taken part in Clergy Malt Club for a few years, I reached out to David and asked if he would like a more formal focus for the phenomenon. He said yes, so I built him this site as a gift.

I reached out to David during the Covid-19 lockdown and asked if he would like me to build him a website to better advertise the Clergy Malt Club event. We had a quick conversation about it via email and as time was running out, I bought the domain name via WordPress.com and quickly created a site using stock photography and a free WordPress theme.

The following year, to save money, I transferred the domain name to 123 Reg where I register and manage most of my domain names and the hosting to SiteGround.

This is a ‘brochureware’ website that simply explains the events (there is also an equivalent Clergy Gin Club at Easter), points people to hashtags on various social networks and offers a countdown timer to the next event. I update the site a couple of times a year.

Clergy Malt Club

Clergy Malt Club has a very simple design that updates twice a year: the period between Easter Day and Christmas Day, and the period between Christmas Day and Easter Day.
